Some contemporary artists have worked on replicas or subtle forms of reproduction of pre-existing works in the vicinity of the similar if not identical. What were their methods, in what context did they develop their work, how can such approaches be understood? By exposing a few emblematic cases of this moment in contemporary art history, sometimes referred to as appropriationism, the aim is to sketch out answers to these questions.
